During the February half term I took two small groups of young carers for yoga sessions. Knowing how hard they work, how much they have to worry about and get done at home, on top of school work, I expected them to be very wound up and stressed out young people. They came across as very quiet and polite young adults, yet as we progressed through the class they revealed how little time they get to themselves. At the end of class they all confessed to feeling totally relaxed and ready to get on with the rest of their day, even better – they claimed to have learnt several ways of calming and relieving stress at home. More Yoga for Young Carers later in the year.
A first for me – a family yoga class! To celebrate the Spring Equinox I offered to run this special class at Lime House Yoga Studio and invite the children to bring along their parents for them to practise together. And what a success it was! A very busy class with 24 bodies in the studio, the floor could not be seen for yoga mats. The children were able to show their parents and carers the poses we have learnt in our yoga classes, we practised some new ones and got to do some partner poses too. The relaxation at the end was lovely to see, as parents and children lay next to each other sharing a very special bond in total peace. More family classes to come, with limited spaces!
